Ruby, PostgreSQL And Windows
I have been alternating, back and forth, between my MacBook Pro and a Windows XP notebook for development, depending on where I’m at. This has been relatively easy through the use of Subversion, however, I keep running into a consistent problem when using Rails and PostgreSQL together:

Web 2.0 Programming
Akamai provided global Internet caching meaning a client browser requesting a specific file when is then sent to another website which gives you the index page of the source site of the file. From the source code you can parse it into your site as an image, video or audio file. The disadvantage here was the hoops one had to go through in order to get a file, plus the fact that they could only use the servers provided to them. Now take BitTorrent, every client is also a server, hence the more popular a file is the faster it can be downloaded because more clients or servers in this case that host the give file. Again the lesson here is to give the power to the people.

WeSC Campaign On Pirate Bay
One of the coolest brands in the world, WeSC, have launched a pretty smart campaign on the world’s largetst bittorrent site The Pirate Bay. They have placed a huge banner on their frontpage (featured above) and when you click the banner you’ll get access to 3 different bittorrents: WeSC.Calendar.PAL.DVDr-WeSC, WeSC.Calendar.DVDRip.XviD-WeSC.avi and WeSC.Calendar.Episodes.DVDRip.XviD-WeSC. Smart move Greger Hagelin!

del.icio.us Extension For Firefox 2.0

Bien Por Google

The Adventures Of Ruby
I’m picking up Ruby and Rails. PHP/MySQL is so, like, college, dude. So far it’s pretty fun. The whole ethic of it all is great: everything should be as easy as possible! Infinite configurability is fine but let’s have aggressive, sensible defaults because you don’t need to reinvent the wheel every time! Use your programming brainpower on the programming part not all the run-up stuff!

My Quick Internet Explorer 7 Review
I like the tabbed browsing so far, initially when I first used it in Firefox, I didn’t like it, but it was just because I was used to alt tabbing between windows, etc, but, I’m old and set in my ways. This is a lot better than the grouping that was introduced in earlier versions; I turned that off in about 2 seconds.

What Makes A Good Web Site?
This may sound paradox but spreading your content on the web and different sites may be a much more efficient way to make it available than keeping it on one server. Of course you need to use the right sites to do so. We live in exciting web times where you can upload your photos to flickr and connect to other picture enthusiasts, upload videos to youtube , share links at del.icio.us and documents at writely.

Windows Live Team Rocks
It wasn't until I was driving away that evening that the last piece of the puzzle clicked in my head. Windows Live Writer was created by the same team that brought us Onfolio. This team of hungry developers was acquired from the "outside".

Atlas Update Panel
I've been doing a lot more Atlas...err... ASP.NET AJAX lately so expect to see more on the blog about that. I still am not convinced that not keeping the Atlas tag around isn't useful. I can search for Atlas UpdatePanel and get better results then if I search "ASP.NET AJAX UpdatePanel". But then again I still think of workflow as WWF!
