Gmail.com Flaw Or Feature?

This point has come up before on Firefox and I think it's meant to be a feature.

Have you ever tried sending email to your Gmail id without the dot “.”? It will be still delivered to your inbox. So for Gmail fname.lname@gmail.com and fnamelname@gmail.com is one and the same thing, so any email sent to these IDs will be delivered to my fname.lname@gmail.com inbox.
