New Blog Engine And Feed Urls

Tired of Mephisto and Rails here, but click through for handy LiveJournal script.

I killed Mephisto. Screw Rails’s inability to perform on shared hosts, and screw using a system that no-one has updated in any real way in years.

Legal Primer For Open Source And Free Software

Important to understand legal issues revolving around open source and free software.

A Legal Issues Primer for Open Source and Free Software Projects: All software is subject to copyright law. The moment you save code to a file, copyright law gives you certain rights to control what other people can do with your work. Because almost everybody who contributes code to a software project has rights with respect to their code, understanding the basics of copyright is essential to running a FOSS project.

Thoughts On First Day Of SxSW

Notes from SxSW on AJAX and Flash.

Ajax and Flash mistakes was pretty interesting. Some new idea for Kindo there, and some affirmations of stuff that I have been feeling negative about for a while. Also some affirmations of stuff we’ve done well too. Checkout slideshare.net

Gmail Shows Related Pages In Sidebar!

Another great gmail feature.

It’ll be cool if Google tells the publishers about it or at least clarifies about that how are they selecting the sources of the related pages section of the Gmail sidebar.

Mix08 Day 2

From a good report on Mix08.

This session felt like a recap session on some of the technologies the client-side AJAX support. I am constantly impressed by the javascript intellisense support that is avialble inpeople are already using in their day-to-day development. You can see his own recounting of the session here. He talked about Muti-targeting, CSS support and LINQ to SQL for data access. He next walked through a pretty simple example of using a server-side UpdatePanel to reduce screen flicker.

Explorer 8 Vs. Firefox 3

A good comparison on new versions of Firefox and IE.

Microsoft Makes Online Office Play

Too bad about the lack of Linux support, but at least Firefox works.

Visiting the Microsoft Office Live Workspace promises to allow users to store as many a 1000 documents online and share them with colleagues. Sounds good. Unless you try and sign up for the free service and you’re running Linux. If you are running Linux then you’ll be greeted with a screen informing you that you’ll need to be running a version of Windows or MacOSX and either Internet Explorer or Firefox (good to see Firefox in there).
